In 2023, Shannon spoke at the TedX Bradenton event on the process of teaching young people to find their voice through comic writing. In her speech, she discusses the value of comics as a Dual-Coding Theory tool, experiences with students as they learned to speak up through comic writing, and how educators today can inspire students in the same way.

Dialogic Questions to Use With Your Readers
One of the most important things you can do to foster your child’s love of reading is ask them questions! By asking them questions, you not only give your child the opportunity to think critically about what they are reading/just read, but you also show your interest in whatever story that is capturing their attention. Not only that, but asking questions can lead to conversations that give your child more experience with new vocabulary, using their memory to recall story details, and other important skills that will foster their literacy.
